Nerello mascalese grapes - reference: Mi.P.A.A.F.

The grapes “Nerello Mascalese” comes from the hills of Mascali, from which it takes its name. It’s an ancient red autochthonous vine of late ripening; in fact, the harvest is at the middle of October. It grows up at the feet of Etna Mount in the terracing between the vulcan and the sea where broom and lava chase each other. Here its clusters raise in a sapling cultivation and with the same method used by Greeks. The sea breeze laps upon the vulcan and it softens the temperature. The wine is ruby red to garnet-red, quiet a lot clear due to low polyphenol content. It has a delicate aroma, with hints of red berry fruit and spices; all this is brought up by dynamic acidity, delicate tannins and a high mineral hint.
