The grapes Inzolia is an ancient vine whose origins are still today bone of contention among experts. According to the most trusted opinion, the Inzolia could be the most ancient autochthonous Sicilian vine; thanks to Greek merchant ships, it later spread in other Italian regions and especially in Sardinia, Latium, southern Tuscany, island of Giglio and Elbe.
But actually Sicily is home of this vine produced everywhere but extremely diffused in western regions, among Provinces of Palermo, Agrigento and Trapani.
At the beginning, it spreads intense hints of white or yellow flesh ripe fruit, then it has hints of acacia, broom and smell lemon. The mineral accents highlight the cultivation soil of this autochthonous Sicilian variety from which it draws important features giving it an elegant and fresh structure.
Today, thanks to intuitions and awareness of Sicilian oenologists engaged in the revival of great autochthonous white vines, new matches of grapes are catching on, i.e. Inzolia grape with autochthonous ones as the Catarratto, or with the international ones as Chardonnay or Sauvignon blanc. All this is bringing to amazing and unexpected results.
